As your trusted communications partner, it is our duty and responsibility to ensure that we notify you of marketing-related decisions that could negatively impact your brand. Frequently asked questions about the “Facebook Boycott,” otherwise known as #StopHateForProfit, are below.

NOTE: If you would like to pause your Facebook and Instagram campaigns for the month of July, please email your Account Executive by July 2nd as our offices are closed Friday in observation of Independence Day.

What is the Facebook Boycott?

The Anti-Defamation League (ADL), National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), and other organizations have joined forces and started a campaign called “Stop Hate for Profit.” The campaign objective is to call attention to online hate, extremism, voter suppression and disinformation being spread by, or being ignored by, Facebook.

What does #StopHateForProfit hope to achieve?

The campaign provides clear steps that Facebook could take to produce immediate, positive change. The recommendations can be found here: https://www.stophateforprofit.org/productrecommendations.

99% of Facebook’s $70 billion is made through advertising. The campaign goal is to send Facebook a powerful message that our (your) profits will never be worth promoting hate, bigotry, racism, anti-semitism and violence.

Who is participating?

Major brands, such as Coca Cola and Unilever, have stepped up to cease all paid advertising on Facebook and Social Media for the month of July to bring to light the lack of policies and review regarding hate, disinformation and harassment postings.

What is Tipping Point doing?

We have decided to pause our own paid social media posts on Facebook and Instagram for the month of July. We are here to help you make an educated decision that best serves your company and brand interests. In keeping with national brands, we will pause your Facebook and Instagram campaigns for the month of July if you send us a request in writing. You will not be charged to turn off or turn on your campaign. Unspent budget can be added to another month or reallocated to another tactic that better aligns with your company values.

You can also hit pause on hate by joining the movement— sign-up here. Want to address this issue with your publics? Contact us for assistance with content generation, messaging and strategy.

Let’s put an end to hate together. #StopHateforProfit
